What are the fundamental practice standards?

WHAT ARE THE FUNDAMENTAL PRACTICE STANDARDS?

COA provides lists of standards that are related to life and safety, health and welfare, and rights. These standards are fundamental to quality practice, and COA expects your program to implement them immediately.

These standards are listed after the Table of Evidence charts at the end of each standards section (see example 1).

Essential Life and Safety Standards

Essential Life and Safety Standards are basic to maintaining the life and safety of children and youth.

Health and Welfare Standards

Health and Welfare Standards promote a hazard-free environment that protects the health and welfare of children and youth, and prevents harm, injury, and ill health.

Client Rights Standards

Rights Standards are vital to maintaining a fair and equitable environment, and protecting the rights and dignity of children, youth, and families.
