WHERE DO WE BEGIN?

In beginning the After School Certification process with COA, the decision to seek certification should be made with the full knowledge that a commitment of resources-financial and personnel-will be necessary, as well as a willingness to conduct a program assessment that examines the program's capacity in such areas as Program Administration, and Human Resources.

Since you've already made the decision to seek COA After School Certification, here are a few recommended steps:

  • Visit COA's website www.coanet.org to gain information and an understanding of the Council on Accreditation.
  • Educate your staff about the many benefits COA After School Certification offers that will support their commitment to quality practice and the program's dedication to excellence.
  • Discuss the process, the standards, and the commitment that is required to achieve COA After School Certification with your stakeholders.
  • Assess your ability to implement the standards, including those standards that are fundamental to become COA-certified.
  • Submit a copy of the After School Certification application with the appropriate information and application fee (see the Related Files for a copy of the application and an abbreviated description of the certification process).
  • Let your children, youth and families know that COA After School Certification affirms your commitment to providing them with the very best services. Tell them that when it comes to their needs, Good enough is not good enough!
